It fixes several issues and adds a plethora of features the vanilla game lacks.Much like the previous HeXen game, Hexen II is an enjoyable RPG-FPS hybrid, this time upgraded from the Doom engine to the Quake engine.Played on the second hardest difficulty as the Assassin. I can certainly say I had to fight tooth and nail to survive almost every single encounter in the first half of the game. However, the biggest obstacles in the game were its immense quantity of puzzles that you had to solve in order to unlock other areas and proceed forward. While the combat was fun, the sheer amount of back-and-forth with items, switches and other things was occasionally a bit overwhelming.I loved the concept of being able to level up your character, but unfortunately, it plays a very shallow part in the overall game, barely affecting anything except your max HP. If it had been more fleshed out, it could have been significantly better.I kept getting lost in levels (admittedly due to not paying enough attention sometimes) and felt that a lot of the areas looked very samey, which greatly increased the difficulty in backtracking to the actual spot you need to be in next. I can't blame the game for this in its entirety, but it could have used a bit less labyrinthine level design. Two large problems arose during my time with the game, one being that in the first world has a glitch that can potentially softlock you, forcing you to reload an older save, cheat or just restart the entire game over. If you want to avoid this, just look up info about the Shovel and the Treasury Key. The second problem was the final boss taking way too long to beat. I kept peppering it with everything for upwards of 15 minutes before it finally went down.In conclusion, though it has some issues, the game is still good, but it will ask for more puzzle skills than you might expect from a game of this type. I would gladly buy and play the expansion pack, were it made available on Steam.. Fun and origional game, with a very very amusing, laugh out loud, story (via video cut scenes). Comes with a character editor, and if you are handy with paint shop pro or similar, you can knock up a characer in an hour or so. Custom characters seem to be only available in multiplayer (but I couldn't find any active servers, maybe that's just me). Your character is fixed for story reasons in the single player. Left me wanting more...Well worth the money, highly recommended.. The painful absence of true controller support, no analogue and controller doesn't work in menus, leaves this game feeling like a shoddy half baked port that plays much much better on the consoles than it does on PC. If you want to play this game, buy it on Xbox.. Hexen II (therefore "H2") came in a age where FPS were filling the pc gaming market back in the late 90's, being the true responsible for this wave the father of modern shooting games "Doom" (not the first one, mind you), being published by the same studio, ID software. With that in mind "what set this game apart from others?" you may ask, well a few key factors:a) Graphic wise, the game engine is the final refinement of the Quake's, bringing fullyfleshed 3D where pixels were still a thing in the 90's and without cardboard looking ugly models, both for characters and enemies. Also both lightnning effects, water bloom and textures were above the curve, making the requirements to run the game a bit step.b) Gameplay wise, H2 mainly plays as a normal FPS, with a lowerscreen hud, health and "ammo" bars with weapons to be collected around the levels and enemies to be destroyed, except that it mixes some RPG elements like level progression, classes that requires some different tactics (Like the Paladin may urge a agressive apprach as the Assassin can be played stealth like) and that the levels are actually hubs that have several enigmas and In-game quests (althought not that explicit) making the player tranverse in and out in order to proceed to the boss, instead of just killing all and reaching the exit. When I said about the classes, it's important to observe that each one have it's own arsenal of weapons that may fit better some encounters when comparing to other classes available.c) And last (for this analysis) this game is hard, not combat wise but in terms of puzzles, H2 doesn't hold the players hand when dealing with this and I must say in a negative regard, that it should be better pointed for the players, most the info and hints come in form of texts that pop-up (sometimes only once) with critical, but vague, information, forcing some players to either find a walkthrough (I had to resort to this back in the day when I played this game) or surrender and cry in the corner thinking theirselves dumb.Overall it is a good experience, I found it to be one of the best of it's time, despite the aforementioned puzzle issues and the fact that the Steam version does not contain the xpac named "Portal of Praevus", that finish the Heretic/Hexen saga(s) as an decent epilogue.Cheers. I notiminated this for the “I'm Not Crying, There's Something In My Eye” award. It's not really a sad game; it's actually pretty quirky and cute. However, the entire game is an allegory for something that's going on in the real world right now, and that subject is pretty depressing.*minor spoilers*There was one point in particular that really hit me during one of my first playthroughs. I had figured out how to beat the game, but I also realized that I was too late. Due to a certain time-oriented mechanic in the game, it had become totally impossible to carry out my plan even though I knew exactly what I needed to do. All I could do was watch as all my creations were slowly engulfed and destroyed. I actually watched it all happen, too. I didn't ragequit or do a quick restart. I just watched the world end and felt depressed that the same thing might be happening in real life.. Уаще крутая штука =). This is one of the worst puzzle games I’ve ever played. I don’t even know where to start. So the object of the game is to wait for some colored dots to spawn, then click on a variety of stationary tools to get them to fly into receptor objects. Sometimes the dots will fly wildly all over the screen until you activate magnets to suck them up. Other times they will break or decay and need to re-spawn. Yet other times they don’t respawn, so if you mess up the puzzle you need to start all over. There are a few good ideas, but what game doesn’t have a few good ideas? Here, it’s completely destroyed by a large number of issues:* Non-deterministic physics. When I first played the game, the introductory level told me to “just watch.” Then physics glitched out and two particles collided when they should not have, breaking the level and leaving me staring at the screen until I realized I had to restart. Things didn’t get much better from there.* Most of the puzzles don’t involve planning, but having highly precise aim and timing. This is “I know what I need to do, but it’s taking me two hundred tries to do it: the game” * Solved the puzzle? – Great, now you have to do it again. Four times. For some reason, clearing most stages requires you to repeat the exact same actions several times in a row, usually four times, sometimes more. All the while, the physics could glitch out at any time and require a restart.* The only texture in the game is the space background. White textureless models are hard on the eyes and make it difficult to distinguish between different objects.* Twitch-reaction solutions are very frustrating when they require quickly clicking on multiple tiny objects.* Camera controls are a joke; the camera and the game can’t be controlled at the same time, and it resets at the beginning of every level.* The only music is a few 12-second ambient loops. Sounds are unremarkable. (The voice-overs for the tutorials were decent, though)* It is impossible to play this game in full-screen if you have multiple monitors, it will crash instantly. You need to edit a config file just to let it run.In short, this game is irritating, obtuse, unrewarding, glitchy, and visually awful. On the bright side, I got all of the achievements in under 5 hours… so if you’re an achievement hunter, go for it, just don’t expect to have much fun.. Raycatcher truly is the future of videogaming. With the Omega Point right around the bend, Raycatcher alone is threatening to topple the post-modern empire that large companies have built. It is also free from the restrictions of the general indie developer's black iron prison. Raycatcher has stolen the great arcanum from the gods, and like prometheus, is being punished for sharing this fire.. lol I played a few minutes and did a few jumps. I thought... this is cool. Turned it off and never turned it back on.You are just jumping but you do not actually control the trucks, you just do the set up and gas, but no turning. So no reason to play more than 20 minutes of fun in my opinion.. fun...FUN!!
